How old do I have to be to hire a car or van?
To hire any vehicle on our insurance the driver must be aged between 25 and 75 years old.
We are however able to insure drivers as young as 21 on certain vehicles.
(Subject to conditions). Please call for further information.
What documents must I produce to hire a vehicle?
When you come to collect a pre-booked vehicle you will need the following:
The hirer, i.e. the person paying for the hire and the deposit needs to bring two forms of recent identification proving his or her current address.
This can consist of any 2 official documents with name and address and date displayed upon it, e.g. a telephone bill and a bank statement would be fine.
The driver(s) of the vehicle must bring their driving licence, if it is one of the new style licences it is important that both the photo card AND the paper counterpart are brought, failure to bring both parts may result in refusal to hire.
Are there any extra costs?
There are no hidden costs.
The price given is the total cost of the rental.
The cost is fully inclusive of:
Vat (value added tax @ 17.5 %),
Insurance,
Unlimited mileage
24-hour recovery service
Any extras i.e. additional drivers, tyre & windscreen cover, baby seats etc will appear on the quote
How do I calculate the number of days rental
Rental days are calculated in 24 hours periods from the time you collect your car.
1 day’s rental is classed as 24 hours.
If, for example, you collected your car @ noon on the 1st of the month and returned it @ noon on the 10th, you would subtract 1 from 10 to give you 9 days rental.
The time of collection and return being the same on both days.
If you return the car more than 59 minutes later than the pick up time, you will be charged an extra days rental.
What is the largest vehicle I can drive on a standard license?
If you were issued your driving license before the 1st of January 1997 you should be entitled to drive any vehicle up to 7.5 tonne in Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), this includes all of the vehicles advertised on this site. If you were issued your license after 1st of January 1997 then you will be entitled to drive any vehicle up to 3.5 Tonne GVW. This includes vehicles such as the Luton style vans, which are commonly used for house moves.
